Q: What do kids do at a Mad Science birthday party?
A: During the first 40-45 minutes, the Mad Scientist will engage children with amazing science demonstrations that are conducted with the help of your birthday child and guests. Guests might see color-changing or glow in the dark chemical reactions, or be called as volunteers to play a game with our vortex generators. They might even see indoor fireworks! During the final 10-15 minutes of the party, children will make slime, putty or a superball to take home. Adding on a rocket launch, cotton candy, hovercraft rides, or dry ice bubbling potions as a finale will typically add 10-15 minutes to the length of your party.

Q: How far in advance do I need to book my party?
A: Our party schedule fills up quickly. We suggest you book well in advance to get the date and time you want. Generally, at least 3 weeks in advance is recommended.

Q: What do I need to do to make a reservation?
A: We will be delighted to book your party and help you with the details over the phone! You can reach us at (330) 498-0033.
You may also simply complete an online request form by clicking on the “Book now” button. We will respond to your request within 1-2 business days.

Q: What time can I have my party?
A: The most popular days for parties are Saturdays, Sundays, and Friday evenings, but we will be happy to schedule your party on other days. All dates and times are subject to availability.
Q: Do I need to know the exact number of children attending my party to book it?
A: No. All we need is an estimate of the number of children you expect to attend. We ask that you plan for the largest number of children expected. Our pricing is divided into groups of 5 children. If, on the day of the party, you have less than the minimum number for a specific pricing level, we will decrease the party base price by one pricing level on your invoice.
Q: Do you have any themed parties?
A: All our themes revolve around science. If you have another party theme, let us know and we will do our best to try to incorporate wording, etc. into the party for you if possible, provided it is not a trademarked theme.

Q: When will the Mad Scientist arrive?
A: The Mad Scientist will arrive at least 15-20 minutes early to set up. He/she will be ready to start the show at the time you booked. It is best to start your party at least 15 minutes before your Mad Science show is scheduled to start so that all the children have a chance to arrive and greet each other.

Q: Will I have to provide the Mad Scientist with anything?
A: We will need a table (a card table, coffee table, or larger works great) positioned behind where our Mad Science will present. We also will need access to water for set-up and clean-up and possibly access to electricity depending upon the party theme and finale/s selected. Please let us know if your party location does not have any of these.

Q: What kind of space is needed?
A: If at your home, we ask that you have us present in an area where your children and their guests will be comfortable. We typically have children seated on the floor approximately 4-5 feet from the Mad Scientist. Some of our parties work best if the room where they are held can be at least slightly darkened. Please let us know if that is not possible so that we may present the most appropriate party for you location. Additionally, one of our parties (Fizzy Physics) may only be held outdoors. If this party is booked we ask that you have a garage or other outdoor-style building to utilize in case of rain.
Q: How much space is needed for the rocket launch?
A: The Mad Scientist will need a medium to large sized back yard or open space to launch the rocket. If you are not sure whether you have sufficient space, you may add the rocket launch finale and then the Mad Scientist will assess whether or not it is safe to launch the rocket on the day of the party. You will not be charged for the finale if the rocket cannot be launched safely.

Q: Once I have scheduled my party, can I make changes to it later?
A: Absolutely! We ask that any changes be made at least three business days before your party. After that we will try to accommodate any changes, but cannot guarantee it.

Q: Is it okay to have other activities going on while the Mad Scientist is performing?
A: We recommend against it. The Mad Scientist will begin at the scheduled start time and continue until our portion of the entertainment is finished. We will not be able to stop for any other activities (ex. food or cake). Children are not to eat during our presentation as some of our experiments involve chemicals. Please plan accordingly.

Q: What if it rains the day of my party?
A: One of our two outdoor parties can easily transition indoors in case of rain. For the other, we will utilize the alternate location (garage or other outdoor semi-open building) that we will have discussed during the booking process.
Q: Can I have the phone number of my Mad Scientist?
A: Unfortunately, we do not provide the Mad Scientist’s personal contact information. Your Mad Scientist will attempt to contact you 1-2 days ahead of your party to confirm details and answer any last minute questions that you may have.

Q: For what ages are your parties appropriate?
A: Our parties are appropriate for children between 4 to 12 years of age. Younger siblings generally watch, but do not actively participate in the party and should not make a take home project. We determine the number of attendees based on the number of children that watch the presentation and make a take home project.
Q: When do I pay?
A: Your Mad Scientist should hand you an invoice as well as an evaluation upon his/her arrival at the party. At the end of the presentation, you may pay the invoice by check, cash, or money order after we have made any necessary amendments for more or less children, goody bags, etc.
Q: What is your policy on tipping?
A: If you think your Mad Scientist did a great job, a tip is very much appreciated, but by no means necessary. We ask, if possible, that you provide any gratuity to them separately.

If you have any other questions, please call us at (330) 498-0033.
